Do you miss the merry-go-round if you're on the boat?

One day, my ship will come in.

Then you'd be up the creek without a parachute.

If your ship comes in, is your cargo on the carousel?

Whatever floats your oats.

And if you miss the boat, you're sailing very close to the wind.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make an omelet without breaking bread.

from experience, "if you're not on the merry-go-round, you're going to miss the pony, the teddy-bear and the teacup" is more accurate.

I wouldn't be investing in that merry-go-round. Look at those sub-primes!

Sailing close to the Trade winds

or Horse Latitudes?

Is the Teddy-Bear a Bull?

or a B-paper Night-Mare?

Well, if you don't have a roof over your head, where are you going to find your place in the sun?

And if you don't throw your hat into the ring, where's the anyplace you are going to hang it?

Relaxing sun-drenched panoramic views.

I see the back gossip page of today's AGE has been trawling this blog and used the quote without attribution.

Hmmm. Though there's a variation in the transcription.

One of us is misquotin'.
I'm guessing it's missboynton.

(Despite writing it down at the time, my record is not without fault)
Still, if they named 'the guru' I'd be more convinced.

btw. In the original draft I included this link to a web site of movies of vinatge US amusement rides.
If you scroll down (to Up Down Boats)it's possible to see a merry-go-round boat ride.

(Maybe this is what the texpert meant?)

I cut the link to preserve reasonable incongruity, but present it now for medium's sake.

I reckon FX is spot on, and further to Bointon's poynt, the gossip page would have cited the quote sooner than today if they'd heard it themselves when Tim Fletcher or Enzo Raimondo (I forget which) said it.
