heart-tugging

But I will always remember him for the heart-tugging sentimentality of Born Free. It's a broad range for which John Barry could be justly proud.

my heart has been tugged so much the coast guard want me registered.
Cole's eulogy for Barry is sweet, but it just led me to the Joy Adamson story which is bigger than all of us.
I read the Elsa book in the early 60's thanks to Rye Library (which exists no longer). I couldn't bear to see the film of it.
Those savage bastards in Nairobbery murdered her and her husband, and wonder why whiteys like me just loathe them all. Don't get me started on the poor gorillas.
Barry had a good life, I cannot be sorry for his innings ending.

- I heard Born Free in an op shop on the weekend before that post - and it's a song full of childhood associations. Heart-tugging nostalgia.
(a link to the full sound track was good to sample too).

Years ago, I saw a doco on JA 'unmasked' - provocative, unfair I think, but it led me to a great deal of reading on lions, Leakey, Fossey etc. JA is an inspiration: despite her personal flaws poured all the money into conservation.
The story of Elsa is almost too sad to revisit, but is uplifting.
Interesting that both stars of the film (as a result of it) became active in animal welfare work.

(A biog I read later was JA: Behind The Mask)
