footbowl

Ramage directed me to Hanuman, and this post on the Chinese–Australian Historical Images in Australia Database.

And this photo.

(It's a timely image on Brownlow night, as the dull countdown tolls in the background, and with Test cricket looming too early on the horizon. This near merging of the seasons is unseasonal)

A close field, and the dame looks like she can handle a bat.

Footy was a winter exercise played by cricketers to keep them fit for the summer.
I'm sure you knew that already (just wanted you to know I knew it).

Yairs.

My concern is the looming Test series at the beginning of October, when really that should be the time for District and junior cricketers to be washed out on a Saturday morning, while our thoughts turn to Caulfield.
I don't like the I/N calendar creep.

I have a little collection of facts which I trot out to raise people's eyebrows.

"October is the wettest month of the year."

That's one of them.

And mind you, I'm never smug about it, on the contrary, I'm merely wanting to be interesting.
